Inspector Rudolph Riley is embroiled once again in a series of murders that have rocked the seaside town of Fleetmouth. But to add further angst to the growing list of gruesome killings is his boss’ decision to re-open the cold case involving the disappearance of a school boy in what has become an annual test of endurance… The Ten Tors Race.
Unsure why a twenty year old case has suddenly come to the top of his in tray, his suspicions are aroused further when the murder victims all appear to have been school friends of the missing boy.
Adamant that coincidences don’t exist in police work Riley sets about trying to find the link between Sam Haldane’s disappearance and the recent killings, other than the obvious connection of friendship.
Added to his troubles, is the presence in the area of a fugitive, who has his own ideas about revenge and justice and an unscrupulous developer, who wants to buy the land surrounding his farm and turn it into a theme park, with scant regard for the history or the people who were thrown off their land prior to D Day.
With the disappearance of the schoolboy and the final showdown all set around the infamous Fox Tor Mire, which was allegedly the inspiration for Arthur Conan Doyle’s Grimpen Mire in the Hound of the Baskervilles, the murderer is finally revealed but not without one final twist of the plot.
But in all the blackness and soul searching there is one ray of brightness for Riley, and its one that will bring him a little closer to his brother and shows a different side to the curmudgeonly detective.

A VERY MODEL MURDER An Inspector Rudolph Riley Mystery eBook Jack G Hills

The main characters are likeable, some of the 'supporting cast' could use some fleshing out. Plot I good with a twister the end, appropriately.
The problem is the editing. If the author has an editor, that person needs to find a new career, the spelling mistakes and problematic grammar come close to ruining the book. If the author doesn't have an editor, he needs to find one immediately. As far as I can gather, the first book was just as bad so I'm not sure what the problem is. I've never read a book so badly edited.
It's distracting enough I won't read any more by this author.

A VERY MODEL MURDER An Inspector Rudolph Riley Mystery eBook Jack G Hills Reviews

Quite convoluted but skillful mystery, that does make you want to read on. Not necessarily a lead character to like.
I'm enjoying this book but have to agree with the previous reviews. This badly needs to be proof-read incorrect words, misspelled words, missing words, superfluous words are all distracting but I'm enjoying the basic premise of the book and the mystery therein.
I like the main character for this book. He's so "in our face" and blunt that it's almost refreshing. The dialogue with the ex-wife is funny and real. I'll definitely read further books with the Rudolph Riley character.
I might have found the book more interesting if I hadn't got so involved in all the printing errors. In one place a widow was called a widower, in another diary was substituted for dairy, and many sentences didn't make sense because words were either omitted or words were out of place. Very poor job of proofreading.
The plot was good and characters interesting. However, I am fed up with poorly edited books. It was a chore to get through the book and badly affected any enjoyment. Too many errors to bother listing. This is just plain sloppy for which there is no excuse. I will not read this author again.
Everyone is correct that the story needs editing. However we all need to look at what we are paying for these books vs what is paid for books / authors with a staff of professional editors. As i enjoy the very low price, I don't let mis-spelled or mis-used words bother me.

What did bother me was trying to follow the story and characters, in fact the very good story and characters. There werre rapid development and murders, and it became very hard to sort out who just died and what part they played. And at the end I have to admit I was still confused as to exactly who killed who, and how if I understood the ending correctly a well-known Viscount could be the kid missing for years on the moor? And his family, no one recognize him? I must have been wrong, but even after re-reading the end chapters I don't get it.
The story jumped around, it was hard to keep track of what was happening. People acted illogically, a pet peeve of mine. I couldn't get past the first few chapters. I wish I'd bought myself a candy bar with the 99 cents instead of this , I would have enjoyed it more.
